Bandits Release Kidnapped Oyo Pupils, Teachers
The pupils and teachers abducted by suspected bandits in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State have regained their freedom.
The development was confirmed on Friday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, through a post on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account.
Announcing the development, Onanuga stated that the victims were successfully rescued by security agencies.
“Finally, all the kidnapped pupils and teachers in Orire, Oyo have been rescued by our security agencies,” he wrote.
Although the victims have regained their freedom, authorities are yet to provide details on the circumstances surrounding the rescue.
As of the time of filing this report, it remains unclear whether any ransom was paid or if the victims were rescued through a coordinated security operation.
The abduction had generated widespread concern across Oyo State, with many Nigerians calling for intensified efforts to secure the release of the pupils and their teachers.
Security agencies are expected to provide further details on the operation and the condition of the rescued victims in due course.
