Police Arrest 66 Suspects, Rescue 17-Year-Old Girl, Recover Guns and Drugs in Four States

The Nigeria Police Force has recorded fresh operational successes across Ogun, Ekiti, Kano State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), leading to the arrest of at least 66 suspects, the rescue of a 17-year-old girl and the recovery of firearms, ammunition, suspected illicit drugs and other exhibits.

The development was contained in the State-by-State Executive Summary of the Police Force’s operational activities released on Thursday, August 13, 2026, by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu.

In Ogun State, police operatives responded on August 12 to a report concerning the alleged defilement of a 17-year-old girl in Warewa.

The police said the suspect was arrested following the report, while the victim was rescued and taken to a hospital for medical treatment.

The State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, has taken over the investigation into the case.

In Ekiti State, two suspects were arrested during a stop-and-search operation along University Road, Iyin-Ekiti.

According to the police, operatives intercepted an unregistered motorcycle conveying the two suspects after they were considered suspicious. A search reportedly led to the recovery of one live cartridge and substances suspected to be illicit drugs.

The police subsequently conducted searches at the suspects’ residences, where one single-barrel gun was recovered.

The two suspects and the recovered exhibits have been handed over to the SCID in Ado-Ekiti for further investigation.

In Kano State, 11 suspected drug peddlers were arrested on August 11 following intelligence gathering and surveillance operations in Sabon Gari.

The police said the suspects were intercepted and searched, leading to the recovery of 60 capsules of Pregabalin, five tablets of Diazepam, 10 tablets of Extol and a large quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

The SCID, Bompai, is currently investigating the case.

The Federal Capital Territory recorded the largest number of arrests, with 52 suspects apprehended during coordinated police raids on black spots, criminal hotspots and uncompleted buildings across the territory.

The police said quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, other substances suspected to be illicit drugs and knives were recovered during the operations.

The respective divisional commands in the FCT are investigating the cases.

The latest operations bring the total number of suspects arrested in the four locations to 66, according to the figures contained in the police statement.

The Nigeria Police Force said the operations form part of its ongoing efforts to disrupt criminal activities, remove dangerous weapons and illicit substances from circulation and enhance public safety.

The Force also urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies by providing credible information that could assist in preventing and combating crime.
