Ekiti Assembly Sets September 1 for Stewardship Account Rendering by MDAs, Tertiary Institutions, LGs
The Ekiti State House of Assembly has announced the commencement of a comprehensive stewardship account rendering exercise for Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), state-owned tertiary institutions, as well as Chairmen of Local Government Councils and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) across the state.
The exercise, scheduled to commence on September 1 and run until October 7, 2026, is aimed at strengthening accountability, transparency and effective management of public resources in the state.
The Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Hon. Babatunde Oke, disclosed this in a statement issued on August 11, 2026.
According to him, the exercise is part of the Assembly’s constitutional responsibility to exercise oversight over public institutions and scrutinise the management of government funds.
He explained that the exercise derives from the powers vested in the legislature by Sections 88(1), 121 and 122(1)(f) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended.
The Assembly said detailed schedules indicating the dates for appearances have already been forwarded to the affected MDAs, tertiary institutions, Local Government and LCDA Chairmen.
It directed the responsible officers of the various institutions and councils to appear before the House on their assigned dates with relevant documents.
Such documents, according to the Assembly, include financial records, approved budgets, audit reports, project status reports and other materials previously requested by the legislature.
The House said the exercise would provide an opportunity to assess the performance of government institutions against their approved budgetary allocations and determine the extent to which public funds have been deployed to intended projects and programmes.
It further stated that the exercise was designed to promote transparency and accountability while strengthening public financial management across the state.
The Assembly emphasised that the ultimate objective was to ensure that government resources were judiciously utilised for the benefit of the people of Ekiti State.
It advised affected institutions and officials seeking clarification on their schedules, required documents or other logistical arrangements to contact the Clerk of the House or visit the Assembly Secretariat during official working hours.
Hon. Babatunde Oke, who signed the statement, urged all concerned institutions and council authorities to comply with the exercise and provide the necessary records to facilitate a smooth and effective oversight process.
