As the political climate intensifies ahead of the 2026 Osun State governorship election, Nigerian music icon Davido has released a new single titled “From Umbrella To Broom,” sparking fresh debate over Governor Ademola Adeleke’s rumored defection from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The track, rich in Afrobeat rhythms and layered with symbolic lyrics, appears to comment on political loyalty and transformation. Phrases like “New broom go sweep better” and “From umbrella to the broom” are interpreted as strong hints toward Governor Adeleke’s shifting political allegiance. The “umbrella” and “broom” symbolically represent the PDP and APC, respectively.
Sources close to the Adeleke camp confirmed that the governor recently met with top APC stakeholders and is expected to be formally unveiled at a ceremonial event if ongoing negotiations are finalized.
Davido, a globally recognized artist and Governor Adeleke’s nephew, has long been a vocal supporter of his uncle’s political ambitions. He accompanied the Osun State governor during a recent visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Lagos, further fueling speculations about Adeleke’s move to the ruling party.
According to reports, leaders within the APC view Adeleke’s possible defection as a strategic opportunity to secure a firmer grip on Osun State, where he currently holds power as governor. However, party insiders say the final decision rests solely with President Tinubu.
“If the President decides to accept Adeleke into the party, we would support him, as he is the leader of the party,” a senior APC source told SaharaReporters.
Despite the high-level talks, there is concern among APC loyalists, particularly those who defected from the PDP due to disagreements with Adeleke. They fear that his entrance into the APC may create fresh tensions within the party’s Osun chapter.
As speculation continues, Davido’s musical release serves not only as a promotional tool but also as a cultural expression of the ongoing political narrative — blurring the lines between entertainment and governance in Nigeria’s dynamic democratic space.
