The Oyo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun, has arrested three individuals for allegedly terrorizing the Ojoo community in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.
The Amotekun corps apprehended the suspects at the early hour of Thursday within the Ojoo Park area, where they were caught of extorting money from residents and commuters. The people of the Ojoo area have testified to the suspects’ criminal activities, including the harassment and intimidation of community members.
“These individuals have been terrorizing our people, extorting them of their hard-earned money, including passengers who pass through our area,” said a local resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
The Ojoo Police Division has since taken custody of the three suspects from the Amotekun officers. The police have confirmed the arrest and stated that the suspects will be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted if found guilty.
“We commend the efforts of the Amotekun corps in apprehending these individuals who have been causing distress in the Ojoo community,” said a spokesperson for the Oyo State Police Command. “We assure the residents that justice will be served, and the law will take its course.”
The incident has once again highlighted the ongoing efforts to maintain security and tackle crime in the Ibadan metropolis. The Amotekun corps, which was established in 2020 to complement the efforts of conventional security agencies, has been playing a crucial role in securing local communities across Oyo State.
