The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has officially launched the portal for student loan applications on 2024-05-24. The portal, available at www.nelf.gov.ng, offers interest-free loans to students from federal institutions, polytechnics, colleges of education, and technical colleges across the country.
To apply for the loan, students need to follow these steps:
1. Visit http://www.nelf.gov.ng and click on “Apply Now” and “Get Started”.
2. Verify your educational information by selecting your school from the dropdown and providing your matriculation number.
3. Verify your JAMB details, or if your NIN is not registered with JAMB, enter your NIN for validation.
4. Create an account by providing your email address, password, and confirming the password. Verify your email address by clicking the link sent to you.
After successful registration, log in and complete your profile by:
1. Entering your contact details, including phone number, residential address, state, and local government area.
2. Updating your educational details, such as your higher institution and matriculation number.
3. Verifying your Bank Verification Number (BVN), selecting your bank, and entering your account number.
To apply for the loan, follow these steps:
1. Click the “Request for Student Loan” button.
2. Choose whether you need an upkeep loan, institutional charge, or both, and click “Continue”.
3. Upload the required supporting documents, including your admission letter, which is compulsory, and your student ID and institution invoice, which are optional.
4. Read the loan overview, check the boxes for the Terms & Conditions and GSI Mandate, and click “Submit Application”.
5. Check the “Loans” page to view the status of your application.
