In a bid to address growing food insecurity and economic hardship across the country, the Nigerian federal government has announced the distribution of 42,000 metric tons of grains to poor citizens nationwide.
“We recognize the immense challenges facing many Nigerians due to the current economic climate, and it is our duty to provide support to the most vulnerable members of our society,” said Abubakar Kyari, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security.
The grains will be distributed free of charge through a collaborative effort between the government, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and the Department of State Services (DSS). This emergency food aid program is part of the administration’s broader strategy to boost food security amidst rising inflation and a weakening currency.
“Access to adequate, nutritious food is a basic human right. With this initiative, we hope to alleviate the suffering of countless Nigerian families who have been hit hardest by the ongoing economic crisis,” Kyari added.
The distribution of the 42,000 metric tons of grains is expected to reach all 36 states in the federation, providing critical relief to poor and food-insecure households nationwide. This marks a significant intervention by the Nigerian government to support its citizens during these challenging times.
