As the Edo state governorship election approaches, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Aibiokunla is experiencing a series of defections to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Prominent members of the PDP from Oza, Iru, and other communities have joined the ruling party in a bid to unseat Governor Obaseki and his ally Asue Ighodalo from Osadey Avenue.
Among the notable defectors are Hon. Kingsley Odemwingie, former Special Adviser to the chairman and former supervisory council for youth and sports of the Orhionmwon Local Government Council, and Mrs. Esther Agbonnison, former assistant LGA women’s leader. They were officially welcomed into the APC by Ward Chairman Mr. Nnamdi Otobo, in the presence of Hon. Patrick Aisowieren, the Edo state representative in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
Hon. Odemwingie praised Hon. Aisowieren as a prominent figure in national politics, highlighting his contributions to infrastructural development and human empowerment. He emphasized the need to align with him and the APC family to take control of Edo State, which he claimed was currently under the influence of Ikoyi elites.
He cautioned the people of Edo to be cautious of Governor Obaseki, whom he referred to as a self-appointed godfather, and his associate, Asue Ighodalo. He expressed his readiness, along with his supporters, to exercise their voting power and punish the PDP and its candidate in the upcoming election on September 21st.
