The caretaker chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, Chief Dare Adeleke, has called on party leaders across the 177 wards in the state to intensify efforts in organizing and coordinating ward meetings ahead of the forthcoming ward congress.
Chief Adeleke made this appeal while urging party leaders to foster unity among members before, during, and after the congress. He emphasized the importance of working together to ensure political stability within the party and the state.
He expressed appreciation to PDP stakeholders across the 16 local government areas for their steadfast support, assuring them that his leadership remains committed to repositioning the party for victory in future elections.
The caretaker chairman condemned individuals within the PDP whom he described as agents of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing them of attempting to destabilize the party ahead of the next gubernatorial election. He warned that such actions would not be tolerated, adding that appropriate sanctions would be meted out to those found culpable.
Chief Adeleke also criticized the APC-led government in Ekiti State, accusing Governor Biodun Oyebanji of failing the people. He challenged the governor to account for the huge allocations received from the federation account, questioning the state of infrastructure, the deplorable condition of roads, multiple taxation on traders, and rising insecurity.
He urged PDP leaders in all wards to mobilize party members and intensify grassroots engagement in preparation for the 2026 governorship election. He reiterated that winning the election and reclaiming the government house required collective effort and commitment.
At a stakeholders meeting held at the PDP state secretariat in Ado-Ekiti on February 12, party leaders resolved to dissolve the local government caretaker committees, citing the expiration of their tenure as stipulated in the party’s constitution. It was agreed that the committees would either be renewed or replaced, while the ward and local government congresses would be conducted through affirmation since party leaders had already submitted the list of executives at both levels.
In the interim, the state party leadership mandated the immediate resumption of ward meetings across the 177 wards. To ensure effective coordination, Chief Dare Adeleke announced plans to set up a monitoring team that would visit various ward meetings across the 16 local government areas and report their findings to the state leadership.
