The Federal Polytechnic Ayede, Oyo State, has taken a significant step towards empowering its host community by training 40 youths in Iresa-Pupa on essential entrepreneurial skills. The one-day workshop, themed “Entrepreneurial Skills Workshop for Rural Community to Promote the Town and Gown Relationship,†was organized by the institution’s Centre for Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (CSAED).
During the event, the Rector, Engr. Dr. Taofeek Adekunle Abdul-Hameed, emphasized the importance of building strong ties between academic institutions and their surrounding communities. He highlighted that beyond providing formal education, polytechnics should also contribute to economic and social development.
“A polytechnic must not only focus on academic excellence but also create opportunities that benefit its host community. This training is designed to equip participants with practical skills that can help them build sustainable businesses,†he stated.
Dr. Abdul-Hameed also recognized the efforts of the Aresa-Pupa of Iresa-Pupa, His Royal Majesty, Oba Moses Olayiwola JP, Ajiboye III, for his continuous support of the Polytechnic. He described the monarch as a driving force behind the institution’s progress.
In response, Oba Olayiwola expressed appreciation to the Polytechnic for investing in the empowerment of local youths. He stressed that skill acquisition programs like this would help reduce unemployment and promote self-sufficiency.
The workshop featured expert-led sessions on financial literacy, business development, and entrepreneurship. Facilitators included Dr. Saheed Shittu, Head of the Department of Accountancy; Dr. Idomi Abdulfatai Ishola from the Department of Business Administration and Management; and Mr. Oluwaseun Christopher Owojori, Director of CSAED.
