The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested three suspects for their alleged involvement in a robbery and murder that occurred on July 6, 2024.
According to the press release issued by the police on August 3, 2024, the incident occurred around 6:30 am at Babian Junction, near the Federal Polytechnic Satellite Campus in Ado-Ekiti. The victim, identified as Aina Adeyemi, was reportedly shot and killed by an unidentified gunman riding an unregistered Boxer Bajaj motorcycle.
The police’s Rapid Response Squad (RRS) was immediately deployed to the scene, where they found the victim lying in a pool of blood. She was rushed to the Ekiti State Teaching Hospital, but was confirmed dead on arrival.
Investigations by the RRS led to the arrest of one of the suspects, Omowaye Ayodele, also known as “Baba Ogbon,” from Akure, Ondo State. During interrogation, Omowaye confessed to his involvement in the crime and named two accomplices, Ojo Temidayo, also known as “Yellow,” and Busari Lookman, also known as “Abbey.”
According to the press release, Busari Lookman admitted to being the one who shot and robbed the victim, while Omowaye Ayodele and Ojo Temidayo were standing nearby to monitor the environment and describe the victim to Busari. Busari said the stolen cash, amounting to 155,000 naira, was handed over to Omowaye Ayodele, who kept 50,000 naira for himself.
Omowaye Ayodele also confessed to being a member of a kidnapping syndicate that recently abducted late Professor Femi Olaofe in the Federal Housing Area of Ado-Ekiti. He stated that he was arrested in 2015 for kidnapping, imprisoned, and was recently released on May 24, 2024, after serving his sentence.
The suspects are currently undergoing further investigation and will be arraigned in court accordingly. The police are also working to arrest the fourth suspect, Sunday Onyema, who is currently at large.
