Many workers in federal ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) in Nigeria have not received their November salaries, with some still awaiting payments for previous months.
A civil servant from the federal ministry of labour and employment revealed that some staff members have not been paid since October.
Speaking anonymously, the worker said, “Only a few members of staff have received half of their November salary, while the last two months remain unpaid.” The affected workers expressed frustration, citing a lack of communication or explanation from the authorities regarding the delay.
Bawa Mokwa, the director of press at the office of the accountant-general of the federation, attributed the delay to a “technical glitch” in the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS), responsible for processing federal salaries. Speaking to TheCable, Mokwa assured that the issue had been resolved. “I just left the IPPIS office, and the director in charge of payments confirmed the matter has been addressed.
All errors have been corrected. Federal workers should receive their November salaries soon,” he said.
This delay follows recent reports that December salaries for over 5,000 federal workers may also be affected due to discrepancies in records, including dates of first appointment and birth. Tommy Okon, national president of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN), stated that the union is collaborating with the head of the civil service to address these discrepancies and prevent further delays.
Federal workers now await their payments, hoping that such disruptions will not reoccur in the coming months.
