Highlights of ASUP/FME/NBTE/CCGC/COFER/COHEADS Meeting held today Wednesday 23rd October, 2024 at the FME

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has suspended its planned industrial action following a successful meeting with the Federal Ministry of Education (FME), National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Committee of Chief Executives of Colleges of Education (CCGC), Committee of Federal Executive Secretaries (COFER), and Committee of Heads of Polytechnics and Colleges of Technology (COHEADS) on Wednesday, October 23, 2024.

 

Key Resolutions:

 

– *Scheme and Conditions of Service*: NBTE to constitute a review committee within two weeks to update polytechnic schemes and conditions of service.

– *HND Admission*: Institutions to send registered student data to NBTE portal with N500 charges per student.

– *FG/ASUP 2009 Agreement*: FME to secure approval for renegotiation committee within three weeks.

– *Quality Assurance*: NBTE to ensure quality assurance and staff welfare, providing quarterly reports to FME.

– *Impunity and Polytechnic Act Violations*: Governing Council and FME to address issues in Oko, Ukana, Nekede, Damaturu, and Wannune.

– *2022 Needs Assessment*: Institutions that sponsored PIMC activities to access 1.4% fund.

– *2023 Needs Assessment*: FME and Governing Council Chairmen to pursue release with FG.

– *Peculiar Academic Allowances*: FME’s letter to Salary Income and Wages Commission to include allowances in 2025 polytechnic budgets.

– *Arrears and Promotion*: NBTE to provide acknowledgement copies and request beneficiary lists for further action.

This development brings relief to polytechnic students and staff nationwide, as ASUP suspends its planned strike. The union will report these resolutions to its National Executive Council (NEC) for further action.
