Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, is set to host several prominent figures, including former Senate President Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki and former Ekiti State Governor Dr. Kayode Fayemi, at the inaugural Adebo Ogundoyin Students’ Legislative Summit. The event will take place on April 24, 2024, at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan.

Dr. Saraki will deliver a keynote address, while Dr. Fayemi will serve as the Guest Speaker during the summit, which is themed “Roles of Quality Legislation in Nation Building.” The three-day summit aims to educate and engage approximately one thousand student representatives from tertiary institutions in the Southwest, including Kwara State.

The event will feature accomplished political leaders, seasoned legislators, administrators, academics, and scholars as resource persons, panelists, and moderators. The final day of the summit, on April 25, will comprise panel discussions, interactive sessions, and presentations by the delegates on various aspects of national development.

Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, the honoree of the summit, expressed his belief in nurturing and grooming students and young people for leadership roles and national development. He emphasized the importance of providing students with knowledge about legislation, highlighting the significance of good laws in national development, and discussing legislative challenges.

The summit aims to bridge the gap between current leaders and the next generation of leaders, connecting students with influential figures for mentoring and learning. It will also provide an opportunity for students to contribute their perspectives on key issues of national development and promote inclusive engagement. The themes to be discussed include power, security, true federalism, healthcare, education, agriculture and food security, technology, employment and human capital development, environment, culture, and tourism.

The objective is to ensure that the voices of youth are not only heard but also reflected in government policies, as they are essential stakeholders in building a strong and prosperous nation.
