On Thursday, armed men carried out a deadly attack in two communities located in the Bokkos and Mangu local government areas of Plateau State, resulting in the reported deaths of at least 15 individuals. Among the victims was a second-year Computer Science student from Plateau State University in Bokkos.
According to sources, the assailants launched the attack on Tilengpat and Butura while the residents were asleep. Beginning at around 9 p.m. on Thursday, the gunmen indiscriminately opened fire.
Although security agencies have not yet provided an official response to inquiries regarding the incident, Samson Zhakom, an army major and spokesperson for Operation Safe Haven, stated that the report is currently under investigation.
Yakubu Ayuba, the Registrar of Plateau State University, issued a statement confirming the death of a student and condemning the act as heartless. He identified the victim as Dading James Jordan, a resident of Chikam and a Computer Science student in his second year at the university.
Mr. Ayuba expressed his sorrow over the tragic event and highlighted the continuous efforts made by the Plateau State government, security agencies, the university’s management, and other stakeholders to enhance security on campus and in the surrounding communities.
He lamented that despite these endeavors, the enemies of the university and the state orchestrated this atrocious attack, resulting in the loss of a cherished student.
