Nigerian Students’ Union UK Condemns Violent Protests and Urges Caution

The Nigerian Students’ Union UK (NSUUK) has issued a statement condemning the recent outbreaks of street violence and unrest occurring in various parts of the United Kingdom.

In the statement released on 9 August, the NSUUK expressed concern for the safety and well-being of Nigerian students studying in the UK amidst the ongoing public order disturbances.

“We are writing to condemn the awful scenes of street violence and destruction that we have seen over the last few days,” the statement read. “This is a time when we need to look out for each other even more than usual, especially as we are not all on campus.”

The union urged Nigerian students to take necessary precautions, avoid protest hotspots, follow guidance from local authorities, and maintain close communication with family and friends. Students were also encouraged to reach out to the NSUUK if they have any concerns about their personal safety or that of their colleagues.

“As ever and in accordance with our aims and objectives, we have a commitment to ensure the safety and welfare of our students and community,” the statement said.

The recent unrest in the UK has caused significant disruption and raised concerns about public safety. The NSUUK’s statement reflects the union’s commitment to supporting Nigerian students during this challenging time and provides important advice to help ensure their well-being.
