In a crackdown on hoodlums and cultists responsible for recent attacks in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State Police Command has arrested a fleeing gang member believed to have been involved in the killing of four persons.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abutu Sunday, the suspect, Olanipekun Lateef, also known as Lati Olorifunfun, was apprehended in Ode-Ekiti. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to being a member of the Eiye secret cult and admitted to participating in the fatal attacks in Ado-Ekiti.
Lateef claimed the incident was a reprisal attack on members of the Black Axe AIYE confraternity, who had killed an Eiye cult member on May 27, 2024, in Ado-Ekiti.
The arrested suspect led the police operatives from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) to one Agbeniyi Bunmi, in whose custody the two guns used in the attacks were allegedly kept. Bunmi was also arrested and confessed to handing over the firearms to the Eiye cult’s armourer, Ademola Adejugbe, also known as OBA.
The police subsequently traced and arrested Adejugbe, and a search of his premises led to the recovery of a cut-down locally made single-barrel gun and an English-made double-barrel gun, which were concealed in a sack bag.
The Ekiti State Police Command has vowed to continue its efforts to arrest more fleeing members of the gang responsible for the deadly attacks in Ado-Ekiti.
