In a heartfelt welcome address, Engr. Dr. Taofeek Adekunle Abdul-Hameed, Rector of Federal Polytechnic Ayede, received members of the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN), Ogbomoso Chapter.
He expressed his gratitude for the significant impact APWEN has made in society, particularly under the leadership of notable figures such as Engr. Margaret Aina Oguntala and Engr. Dr. Adebisi R. Osim.
Dr. Abdul-Hameed commended the visiting delegation for their commitment to fostering engineering excellence and supporting younger generations. He highlighted the critical role engineers play in addressing societal challenges and promoting sustainable development. “We must not relent in our efforts, especially in light of the current economic situation,” he stated, urging collaboration between academia and industry to achieve common goals.
The Rector emphasized the vision of Federal Polytechnic Ayede as a technical institution dedicated to skill acquisition and innovation. Currently offering twelve programs, including Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Agricultural Technology, the institution aims to prepare graduates who are not only employable but can also become self-sufficient entrepreneurs.
Dr. Abdul-Hameed also expressed his appreciation for the mentorship provided by APWEN, particularly for female engineers. He noted that the organization’s initiatives would significantly benefit both his female staff and students, ensuring they are well-equipped to thrive in their careers.
The Rector thanked the APWEN Ogbomoso Chapter for their visit, expressing hope for ongoing support and collaboration with the institution. He concluded with a call for blessings on APWEN, the Nigeria Society of Engineers, Federal Polytechnic Ayede, and the nation as a whole.
