As His Imperial Majesty, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, marks his 90th birthday and the first anniversary of his coronation, prominent voices from across the ancient city have celebrated the milestone. Among them is Mogaji Saheed Ayodeji Akande, the head of the Tanímọmọ-Atúnraṣe family, who has praised the monarch’s leadership, wisdom, and enduring legacy.
“On behalf of the Tanímọmọ-Atúnraṣe family, I extend our warmest congratulations to His Imperial Majesty, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, as he celebrates his 90th birthday and the first anniversary of his coronation. These two milestones are a divine blessing and a testament to a life committed to the growth and dignity of Ibadanland,” Mogaji Akande said.
Reflecting on the past year, Mogaji Akande praised Oba Olakulehin’s calm and purposeful leadership, describing him as a monarch who has upheld the honour of the throne with integrity and foresight. He noted that despite his advanced age, Kabiyesi remains intellectually sharp, deeply spiritual, and devoted to the welfare of his people.
He added that the dual celebration is a moment of pride not only for the royal household but for every true son and daughter of Ibadan. According to him, it is rare to have a monarch who clocks 90 in active service, still commanding respect, grace, and genuine affection from his subjects.
“It is not just a celebration of age but of impact. Kabiyesi’s reign has brought pride to Ibadan, and his character continues to inspire the younger generation. His leadership is a reflection of the wisdom gathered over decades of personal discipline, public service, and cultural loyalty,” he added.
Mogaji Akande also reaffirmed the loyalty of the Tanímọmọ-Atúnraṣe family to the Olubadan throne and their support for the current monarch. He called on all Ibadan indigenes, both at home and in the diaspora, to rally behind Oba Olakulehin and work collectively to preserve the cultural values that define Ibadanland.
“As we celebrate our monarch’s 90th birthday and his one-year anniversary on the throne, we must not forget our shared responsibility to support his vision for a united and prosperous Ibadan,” he said.
Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who ascended the throne in 2024, is widely respected across Yorubaland and beyond. His 90th birthday and first coronation anniversary are being marked with prayers, tributes, and traditional festivities, drawing dignitaries, cultural leaders, and well-wishers from across Nigeria.
