JUST IN: FG Orders Payment of Outstanding Wage Awards to Federal Workers Before August 15

The Federal Government has directed the payment of outstanding wage awards owed to federal civil servants, with the payments expected to be made on or before August 15, 2026.
The directive followed a meeting between the Federal Government and the leadership of the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council (JNPSNC) over outstanding workers’ entitlements.
The outstanding payment relates to the N35,000 monthly wage award introduced as part of measures to cushion the impact of the rising cost of living following the removal of the petrol subsidy.
Reports indicate that eligible federal civil servants are owed two months of the wage award, amounting to N70,000 per worker.
The development is expected to bring relief to thousands of federal workers who have been waiting for the outstanding payment, particularly as labour unions have continued to press the government to settle pending workers’ entitlements.
The Federal Government is also processing outstanding promotion arrears owed to eligible civil servants as part of efforts to clear accumulated financial obligations to workers.
The latest development comes amid increasing pressure from organised labour over unpaid wage awards and other outstanding allowances.
With the August 15 deadline approaching, federal workers are now waiting for the government to commence the payment and fulfil its latest commitment.
