Nigerian Ports Authority Announces Recruitment for Nine Positions, Opens Fresh Opportunities for Job Seekers

The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has announced vacancies for suitably qualified Nigerians across nine positions as part of efforts to strengthen its workforce and improve operations at the nation’s ports. The recruitment exercise covers opportunities in marine operations, engineering, seafaring, radio communication and harbour management, with positions available at various port locations including Lagos, Port Harcourt, Onne, Warri and Calabar.

According to the vacancy notice, the available positions include Pilot Trainee, Marine Engineering Trainee, Trainee Seaman, Signalman-in-Training, Radio Officer II, Assistant Manager Radio, Marine Officer II, Senior Marine Officer/Engineer and Assistant Manager Harbours. The positions are placed on different salary grades, with the senior management roles attracting higher salary scales.

For the trainee positions, the Authority requires relevant educational qualifications and, depending on the position, professional maritime certifications. Applicants for the Pilot Trainee and Marine Engineering Trainee positions are expected to possess relevant OND qualifications in Nautical Science or Marine Engineering, alongside required seafarers’ medical and safety certifications.

The Trainee Seaman and Signalman-in-Training positions require applicants to have a minimum of five credits in relevant subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, in not more than two sittings in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) or its equivalent. Knowledge of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), according to the notice, will also be an added advantage.

For the Radio Officer II and Assistant Manager Radio positions, the NPA requires relevant qualifications in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Information Technology or related fields, together with professional training and certification in radio communication and watchkeeping. Candidates for the positions are also expected to possess the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) certification and relevant work experience, depending on the level being applied for.

The Authority also announced vacancies for Marine Officer II, Senior Marine Officer/Engineer and Assistant Manager Harbours. Applicants for these positions are expected to possess relevant Certificates of Competency, mandatory maritime certifications and valid seafarers’ medical certificates, as well as meet the specified age and experience requirements.

The NPA stated that age requirements vary according to the position, with some entry-level opportunities open to applicants between 18 and 27 years, while several of the experienced marine and radio positions have age limits ranging from 23 to 35 years.

Interested and qualified candidates are expected to submit applications accompanied by a comprehensive curriculum vitae containing their email address, residential address, telephone numbers and relevant qualifications. The vacancy notice directs applicants to the NPA’s official careers platform, www.nigerianports.org/careers, or to submit their applications to the General Manager, Human Resources, Nigerian Ports Authority, 26/28 Marina, Lagos.

The Authority said applications must be submitted within six weeks of the publication of the vacancy notice, adding that only shortlisted candidates would be invited for the next stages of the recruitment process, including tests, interviews and medical examinations.

The NPA also issued a strong warning against recruitment fraud, stressing that no fee is required for the employment process. Members of the public were advised to disregard unofficial websites or individuals requesting money in connection with the recruitment exercise and to rely only on the Authority’s official recruitment channels.
