In a devastating act of violence, Dr. Tiri Gyan David, the Head of the Department of Agricultural Economics, Extension, and Rural Development at the Federal University Dutsinma (FUDMA), was killed in a bandits attack in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
The incident occurred at Dr. David’s residence in the Yarima Quarters of the Low-Cost Estate in Dutsinma Local Government Area. According to an eyewitness, a group of armed bandits invaded the community around 1:30 am, firing indiscriminately and terrifying residents.
During the raid, the bandits also abducted two of Dr. David’s children. Abubakar Sadiq, the spokesperson for the Katsina Police Command, confirmed the attack and stated that a comprehensive statement would be issued shortly.
Dr. Tiri Gyan David was a respected and influential figure in the academic community. As the Head of the Department of Agricultural Economics, Extension, and Rural Development at FUDMA, he played a vital role in shaping the future of agriculture and rural development in the region.
The tragic incident has left the university community and the broader public in a state of shock and mourning.
Despite ongoing efforts by the state government and security agencies to address the rising tide of banditry in the area, Dutsinma remains one of the 10 local government areas in Katsina State that are frequently targeted by these criminal elements.
This senseless act of violence has not only robbed a family of their loved ones but has also deprived the academic community and the region of a valuable leader and scholar.
As the investigation into the attack continues, the authorities must redouble their efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure the safety of the residents of Dutsinma.
