The operation, which targeted the Iworoko and Ijado areas of the city, followed credible intelligence reports linking the suspects to a series of online fraud activities. Acting on the tip-off, the EFCC swiftly mobilized its operatives to the locations, leading to the successful arrest of the individuals.
According to a statement released by the Commission, several items believed to be proceeds of crime were recovered from the suspects during the operation. These include eleven luxury vehicles, high-end laptops, numerous smartphones, and various incriminating documents. The EFCC noted that these items will serve as critical evidence in the ongoing investigation.
The arrest is part of a broader effort by the EFCC to clamp down on cybercrime and internet-related fraud, which continues to affect Nigeria’s image and financial integrity both locally and internationally. The agency reaffirmed its commitment to ridding the nation of economic and financial crimes, especially among the youth.
EFCC further disclosed that the suspects are currently undergoing thorough profiling and interrogation. Once investigations are completed, they will be formally charged in court to face prosecution in accordance with the law.
This latest raid adds to the growing number of similar operations carried out by the EFCC across Nigeria in recent months, as the agency intensifies its efforts to curb cybercrime and restore public confidence in the country’s anti-corruption drive.
Residents of the affected communities have commended the EFCC for the swift action, calling on the agency to continue its surveillance and enforcement activities to ensure a crime-free environment.
