Ekiti State Government Increases Boarding Fees for Public Secondary Schools

In a recent circular from the Ekiti State Ministry of Education, all principals of government-owned secondary schools with boarding facilities have been informed of an increase in boarding fees.

The circular, signed by S.S. Bayode Ogunmola on behalf of the ministry, states that the Ekiti State Government has approved a new boarding fee of ₦100,000 per term, effective from the 2024/2025 academic session. This fee is broken down into ₦90,000 for the boarding fee and ₦10,000 for hostel utility and maintenance.

The circular also reiterated that the Executive Order 001 of 2018, which prohibits the illegal collection of fees from students, is still in operation and must be complied with. No additional fees can be collected under any guise.

This decision to increase boarding fees comes as part of the state government’s efforts to improve the standard of boarding facilities and services offered in public secondary schools across Ekiti State. The increased revenue from the revised fees will be used to enhance the living conditions and amenities available to boarding students.

School principals have been directed to ensure strict compliance with the new boarding fee structure and to refrain from any unauthorized fee collections. The Ministry of Education has emphasized that this measure is aimed at providing a more affordable and equitable educational experience for all students in the state.
