The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has announced a mobilization for a peaceful procession and prayer session in response to the Nigeria Police Force’s recent summons of President Comrade Joe Ajaero. Scheduled for Thursday, August 29, 2024, this action comes amid what the NLC describes as “trumped-up charges” against its leader.
In Abuja, members are expected to gather at the NLC National Headquarters at 8:00 AM to accompany President Ajaero for his scheduled interrogation. The NLC is urging all Central Working Committee (CWC) members and other participants to show up early and demonstrate their solidarity.
For those in state capitals, the directive is to assemble at their respective state secretariats. From there, they will march peacefully to their State Police Headquarters to conduct a prayer session while awaiting the outcome of the President’s interaction with the police.
This initiative is framed as a united stand against intimidation tactics aimed at undermining the leadership of the NLC and silencing the voice of Nigerian workers. The Congress has emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and order throughout the procession.
In a strong statement, the NLC warned that if President Ajaero is detained, all workers across the nation will proceed on an indefinite strike. This mobilization underscores the critical need for solidarity in defending civic rights and the integrity of the labor movement in Nigeria.
The NLC calls on all members to join in this essential effort to uphold justice, fairness, and democracy in the country.
