Frontline contender for the 2026 Ekiti State governorship race and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Otunba Emmanuel Fayose (DOME), has issued a stern rebuke of the Federal Government’s recent approval of a 10 billion solar power grid project exclusively designated for the Aso Rock Presidential Villa.
Speaking in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday, Fayose described the project as a glaring display of insensitivity and misplaced priorities, pointing to the persistent electricity challenges that continue to plague millions of Nigerians and paralyze businesses across the country.
While millions of Nigerians endure daily blackouts and businesses collapse due to unreliable power supply, the presidency is investing 10 billion to ensure uninterrupted electricity for itself, he stated. This action reflects a leadership that is increasingly disconnected from the struggles of ordinary citizens.
Fayose recalled that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had, during his campaign, promised to overhaul Nigeria’s power sector within his first year in office. However, over two years into his administration, Fayose lamented that the national grid remains fragile and inconsistent.
Instead of fulfilling his promise, the president is now isolating himself from the very system he vowed to fix, he said.
The PDP gubernatorial hopeful emphasized that decisions like this erode public trust and highlight a lack of genuine commitment to solving the country’s foundational problems.
Investing in exclusive solutions for the presidency while neglecting the broader populace is not only unjust but also detrimental to national unity and progress, he asserted.
Fayose called on the Federal Government to urgently redirect its focus and funding towards sustainable, nationwide power reforms that benefit all Nigerians, not just a privileged few. He also urged policymakers to reevaluate their priorities, placing the needs of ordinary citizens above elite conveniences.
The statement has stirred reactions across political and civic circles, with many echoing Fayose’s call for transparency, equity, and real commitment to national development.
