The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Youth Development and Community Engagements, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, has praised the patriotic efforts of outstanding corps members honoured at the 2025 NYSC Presidential Award Ceremony, held on Tuesday at the State House, Aso Villa, Abuja.
The prestigious event, organized by the Presidency, recognized 200 exceptional corps members for their exemplary service, innovation, and commitment to community development during their National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) year. The award, regarded as one of the highest national recognitions for corps members, celebrates youths who have made significant contributions to national unity and progress.
Senator Adaramodu, who also chairs the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs and represents Ekiti South Senatorial District, described the awardees as “ambassadors of hope and transformation.” He commended their dedication to the values of selfless service, national integration, and grassroots impact—hallmarks of the NYSC scheme.
“These young Nigerians have not only fulfilled their service obligations; they have gone above and beyond to leave lasting footprints in the communities they served. They represent the true ideals of the NYSC programme and should be celebrated as role models for others,” the senator stated.
Speaking after the ceremony, Senator Adaramodu reiterated the need for sustained government investment in youth development and post-service empowerment. He emphasized the importance of enhancing the NYSC scheme through structured support, skill-building opportunities, and career advancement pathways for corps members.
The senator, a vocal proponent of the NYSC Trust Fund, reaffirmed his commitment to the proposed legislation, which has been passed by the Senate and is currently awaiting Presidential Assent. According to him, the Trust Fund will provide critical financial support for corps members’ welfare, entrepreneurship training, and access to capital for post-service ventures, thereby addressing youth unemployment and enhancing national productivity.
“This Trust Fund is not just a bill—it is a blueprint for economic inclusion and sustainable youth empowerment,” he added.
Senator Adaramodu also commended the NYSC management for their continued efforts in upholding the scheme’s foundational values of unity, discipline, and national service. He called on stakeholders in government, private sector, and civil society to work together in strengthening the scheme to meet evolving challenges and further harness the potential of Nigeria’s youth population.
The NYSC Presidential Award Ceremony drew the attendance of key government officials, legislators, and youth advocates, highlighting the critical role of national service in shaping the future of the country.
