In a nationwide address on Nigeria’s 25th Democracy Day, President Bola Tinubu urged citizens to bear the hardships caused by economic reforms undertaken by his administration.
Addressing the “biting inflation and worsening hardship” facing the country, Tinubu acknowledged the difficulties Nigerians are experiencing. However, he affirmed his commitment to the people, stating: “As we continue to reform the economy, I shall always listen to the people and will never turn my back on you.”
The president revealed that his government has “negotiated the new minimum wage in good faith” and will soon submit an executive bill to the National Assembly to enshrine the agreed-upon wage for the next five years or less. This suggests a resolution has been reached with labor unions regarding a new minimum wage.
Tinubu stressed the importance of achieving both political and economic democracy, urging the nation to work towards a brighter future. He emphasized the need for reforms to create a “stronger foundation for growth,” even if the path forward is not an easy one.
“In the end, our national greatness will not be achieved by travelling the easy road. It can only be achieved by taking the right one,” the president declared.
While acknowledging the current challenges, Tinubu expressed resolve in his leadership, promising to listen to the people and not abandon them during this period of economic reforms and transition.
