Osun APC Candidate Oyebamiji Meets Tinubu After Governorship Election Loss
The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the 2026 Osun State election, Bola Oyebamiji, has met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the first time since losing the governorship election. The meeting took place on Friday, August 21, 2026, days after the election in which Oyebamiji contested against the incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke.
Oyebamiji, who represented the APC in the keenly contested election, secured 444,815 votes, while Adeleke emerged victorious with 511,067 votes. The result gave Adeleke a margin of 66,252 votes over the APC candidate.
The meeting with President Tinubu comes after a highly competitive campaign in Osun, where the APC had hoped to reclaim the state. Oyebamiji had previously received the President’s backing as the party’s candidate and had expressed confidence in his chances of defeating the incumbent.
The latest meeting is significant for the APC as the party begins to assess the outcome of the Osun election and consider its political strategy going forward. Oyebamiji’s engagement with the President also signals continued interaction between the party’s candidate and the APC leadership following the electoral setback.
The Osun election was closely watched nationally because of its political implications ahead of the 2027 general elections. With the result now settled, attention is expected to shift toward how the APC responds to the defeat and whether the party can rebuild its structure in the state ahead of future elections.
