Edo Government Bans Davido From Performing In State
The Edo State Government has reportedly barred Nigerian Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, from performing in the state for the remainder of Governor Monday Okpebholo’s tenure.
The declaration was made by Apostle Kassy Chukwu, Senior Special Assistant on Digital Media to Governor Okpebholo, in a video that has circulated online.
Chukwu said Davido was no longer welcome to perform in Edo State, adding that the singer should not expect to return to the state for concerts during the governor’s tenure.
He also warned that Davido could face an unfriendly reception from some residents if he returned to the state, including at the airport.
The development is linked to the ongoing public disagreement between Davido and Governor Okpebholo, which intensified during the build-up to the August 15 Osun State governorship election.
Okpebholo had criticised Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is Davido’s uncle, over his activities during the election campaign.
Davido subsequently shared what appeared to be Governor Okpebholo’s WAEC result on his Instagram Story. The singer later defended the post during an interview, maintaining that he had no reason to apologise.
Davido also criticised Okpebholo for participating in the Osun election campaign and questioned aspects of his political mandate.
Responding to the controversy, Chukwu accused the singer of making disrespectful comments about the governor and his family. He also described the document shared by Davido as allegedly manipulated and warned him against making similar posts in the future.
The latest development has further escalated the disagreement between the singer and the Edo State government, with the controversy continuing to generate reactions across social media.
It remains unclear whether the reported ban has been issued through a formal government directive or represents the position of the governor’s aide.
