Government Declares Tuesday, September 1, 2026, Public Holiday to Mark Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday

The Kano State Government has declared Tuesday, September 1, 2026, a public holiday to commemorate the Takutaha celebration, marking the birthday of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
The declaration was contained in a statement issued by the Office of the Head of Service and signed by the Director of Public Enlightenment, Rukayya Uba Sulaiman.
According to the statement, the work-free day, which falls on 19th Rabi’ul Awwal 1448AH, is intended to give workers and residents the opportunity to participate in the celebration and reflect on the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
The Head of Service, Hajiya Bilkisu Shehu Maimota, urged civil servants to make meaningful use of the holiday by embracing and demonstrating the values taught by the Holy Prophet.
She highlighted values such as honesty, patience, kindness, justice, peaceful coexistence, and service to humanity.
Maimota also called on workers to remain professional and dedicated in carrying out their duties, while maintaining good character and upholding the principles and values of the Kano State Civil Service.
The state government encouraged residents to use the occasion to promote peace, unity, and mutual understanding among the people.
