OAKMOUNT Legal Practitioners, solicitors to renowned Nigerian gospel singer and evangelist Patricia Temitope Alabi, popularly known as Tope Alabi, have issued a public notice warning members of the public against publishing or circulating false, misleading or defamatory statements concerning the gospel minister.

The notice, dated October 23, 2026, states that the law firm is acting on the instructions of its client, whom it describes as an established gospel minister, recording artiste, songwriter, actress and public figure with national and international recognition.

According to the notice, Tope Alabi has spent nearly three decades building a reputation for integrity, honour and public trust in her personal, professional and spiritual life. The lawyers expressed concern over what they described as false, misleading and injurious statements allegedly being published and circulated about her through print, broadcast, online platforms and word of mouth.

The legal practitioners warned that individuals who publish or cause the publication of statements alleged to be false, malicious or calculated to damage the singer’s reputation could face legal consequences, subject to applicable law and any available legal defences.

The firm further cautioned that liability could extend to individuals who repeat, repost, share, forward or otherwise amplify the allegedly defamatory material, depending on the circumstances of each publication. It also stated that the use of anonymous, pseudonymous or unverified social media accounts would not, by itself, provide immunity from legal liability.

OAKMOUNT Legal Practitioners added that, where legally permissible, their client reserves the right to seek appropriate court orders to identify individuals responsible for the offending publications through relevant platforms, hosts or service providers.

The notice calls on anyone who has already published the material in question to remove it immediately and refrain from further publication. However, the firm emphasised that removing previously published content would not automatically absolve a person of potential liability for the original publication.

The lawyers also disclosed that Tope Alabi had instructed them to institute legal proceedings against persons whose conduct gives rise to an actionable claim, without further notice or recourse. Potential remedies outlined in the notice include damages, injunctions restraining further publication, court orders compelling a retraction and an unreserved public apology, as well as legal costs where justified by law.

The notice clarified that the warning was not intended to restrict truthful statements, fair comment on matters of public interest or the lawful exercise of freedom of expression guaranteed by law.

The document was signed by Toluwanimi Okunade, Esq., on behalf of OAKMOUNT Legal Practitioners, who identified the firm as solicitors to the gospel singer.

The public notice did not identify specific publications or individuals allegedly responsible for the statements in question. The allegations and legal positions outlined in the document have not been independently verified.
