Popular Serving Senator Quits APC Over Leadership, Internal Democracy Concerns
Senator Saliu Mustapha, representing Kwara Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has formally resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State.
Mustapha announced his resignation in a statement following what he described as careful consideration of recent developments within the party in the state.
The senator said the decision was not taken lightly, explaining that it followed weeks of consultations and engagements with relevant stakeholders, his supporters, constituents across Kwara Central and other well-meaning Kwarans.
According to him, his decision was guided by his belief that politics should be centred on people, principles and purpose.
He said where a political platform no longer sufficiently aligns with one’s convictions and the aspirations of the people being represented, it becomes necessary to chart a new political course.
While announcing his departure from the APC, Mustapha expressed gratitude to the leadership of the party, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the relationships and experiences he had gained over the years.
He also reassured his constituents, supporters, political associates and stakeholders in Kwara State that his decision to change his political platform would not affect his commitment to serving the people.
“While my political platform may change, my principles, my purpose and my commitment to the people remain unchanged,” he said.
Mustapha, who is also known as Turaki of Ilorin Emirate, reaffirmed his commitment to the people of Kwara Central, Kwara State and Nigeria.
His resignation comes amid ongoing political developments within the APC in Kwara State, with the senator saying his consultations with stakeholders played a significant role in his decision.
