The Senior Staff Union in Colleges of Education, Nigeria (SSUCOEN) has announced the successful conclusion of its renegotiation exercise with the Federal Government, revealing that about 90 per cent of the union’s demands have been accepted.

The union made this known in a circular dated July 23, 2026, and signed by its General Secretary, Comrade Dr. Aminu Auwalu, informing national delegates that the renegotiation process had entered its final stage.

According to the statement, the leadership of SSUCOEN and the Federal Government’s Expanded Tertiary Institutions Renegotiation Team concluded negotiations on July 22, 2026, after extensive deliberations on the final reports submitted by the technical and strategic sub-committees.

The union disclosed that both parties reached a common understanding on the major issues under discussion, resulting in the acceptance of approximately 90 per cent of the union’s demands.

SSUCOEN explained that the only outstanding step is the formal signing of the new agreement by both parties, which is expected to take place within the next few weeks.

The union further revealed that the Federal Government assured its negotiating team that implementation of the conditions of service contained in the new agreement is expected to commence with the August 2026 salary, once the agreement is formally signed.

Describing the outcome of the negotiations as encouraging, SSUCOEN thanked its members for their patience, commitment and unwavering support throughout the negotiation process.

The union assured members that additional information would be communicated immediately after the agreement is signed, urging delegates and members to remain united as the process is brought to a close.

The latest development is expected to boost the morale of senior staff in Nigeria’s colleges of education, who have awaited the conclusion of the renegotiation exercise and the implementation of improved welfare and service conditions.
